Echoes in the Heart by Sophia Obi

As a poet thinks so the ink flows. In succinct and apt images the poems in Echoes in the Heart dexterously examines the current state of our social anomie. You feel the emotion, the passion and conviction of the poet’s thematic preoccupation in each poem. The world in the free flowing rhythmic universe captured here is built on the scaffold of an acute sensitivity to justice, fairness, love, service and the healing power of reasoned truth.

In poem after poem the poet finds a tone that resonates and enhances the rendering of the message either in dead pan seriousness or a hilarious and jokey mood; the despoliation of the Niger Delta, political corruption, rascality and rapacity of the ruining elite class are dragged in various shades of vivid imagery. Heroes and pacesetters like Gabriel Okara are glowingly celebrated. Of course as a woman, motherhood, love, relationships and gender related issues are nagging issues but they are telescoped with a lens that is not refractive or retributive. The poet persona is enamoured of a world of complementarity where dominion should be primed for power purpose and not self and personal aggrandizement. The refrain ‘I want to be a poem’ in ‘Gratitude’ sets a foreground that modulates the poet’s idea of what the poems entail, as they leap to the throaty delight of the reader and the voice of the poet echoes and echoes.

This collection is not only a breath of fresh air and a thrust to hope and ambrosia in the anomie of our social reality but also an invite to the delicacies of unpretentious poetry and the delightful use of language in the voice of a poet that has found a voice of her own.

  • Echoes of our Time by Imikan’kopuruk

Original price was: ₦3,000.00.Current price is: ₦2,000.00.

    Echoes of Our Time

Published in 2017 by Nimitech Technologies, Imikan Nkopuruk’s Echoes of our Time is an uneasy collection of rhythms of disharmony for the listening ears of our corrupt society. It is not just a poetics, but also a book for studies in stylistics. It blends linguistics with literature in order to x-ray some heart-wrenching religious and socio-political issues that plague the African continent. Rape, failed governance, religious intolerance, greedy leadership, evils of colonialism, injustices that perforate roughly all human institutions, increasing and unceasing exploitation of the masses and a lot more, are the preoccupation of this modern poetry collection. On the whole, this book is birthed to sanitize the souring system, give strength to the weak, hope to the hopeless and be a sonorous voice to the voiceless in a society now scattered by hurricane exploitation, serious marginalization, deep hatred and formalized nepotism.

  • Rumbling Sky by Stephen Kekeghe

Original price was: ₦6,000.00.Current price is: ₦4,500.00.

In Rumbling Sky, one encounters a disconcerting language of the inward. The loud echoes of choking pains and the silent whispers of this collection were written in a harrowing season of political recklessness and human depreciation in Nigeria. They foreground universal challenges, which bestride the sociopolitical, private and domestic domains of any nation that defames morality and humanity in the altar of politics, ethnicity and religion.

‘. . . the poems sit well in the title, reaching back, in nostalgia, to the cradle, capturing the present and forecasting tomorrow. . . the poet has demonstrated the definition of life and self-discovery at birth, infancy, adolescence an in adulthood. The wisdom and wit that enrich the poems with regard to universal ontological , epistemological principles go to confirm the precocity of the poet. . . I recommend the work to readers, particularly to lovers of wisdom and beauty.’

  • Tell my Stories the Way they Are by Imikan’kopuruk

Original price was: ₦5,000.00.Current price is: ₦4,000.00.

Tell my Stories the Way they are

Tell My Stories The Way They Are is a collection of contemporary lines, brided with stylistic orientations; a child conceived through the divine inspiration of Professor Niyi Osundare’s “Hole in the Sky”. And now, it has grown and its coasts extended beyond nature, environment and climate change to the territories of man’s inhumanity to man, legalized exploitation, marginalization, nepotism, deprivation and socio-political injustice. Anyone under the influence of this “polluted space” has the right to consider this poetics – a must-read piece.
